The National-2011 Oxygen Interview
I saw the national headline the friday night of the Latitude music festival in the UK, and I’ve been a fan for a few years now, It was the first time I’d seen them live and they were playing fantastically. A few songs in, they started to play About today, Which I hadn’t heard before somehow, anyways, It came to the chorus “How close am I to losing you Tonight you just close your eyes and I just watch you slip away” And obviously, the rest of the song was about a break up, but those few lines hit me like a ton of bricks and i started to cry, my friend (also a huge national fan) had absolutely no idea what was going on. Have you ever had a moment of perfect understanding with somewhere? Where you say something that you don’t think anybody could possibly understand? It was like that. About a year before, I’d gotten a call from my girlfriends father, who had taken her to hospital with hypothermia. Anyway, I was by her hospital bed just watching her and holding her hand, she died a few hours later, it was like the whole world except the bed and myself went black and there was a part of me missing and theres nothing thats ever hurt that much or i expect, will again There was an odd moment, where Berninger looked at me (i was in the front row) and it was almost as if he understood what i was feeling and for a second it felt like it was me up on the stage bearing my soul while he watched in awe, it was an infinite moment. That feeling, is the most comforting thing I’ve ever felt. And thats what I said, to my friend when he asked About Today
Can I tell you, About Today?
The National played Terrible Love at the end of their concert, and Matt showed us again how amazing he is by jumping into the crowd. Submitted by: Thingsarewell
